[Improvement of the beef cattle productivity by the indices method]

The research deals with the improvement of the Latvian Brown breed cattle productivity that are the main beef producers in Latvia. The improvement can be achieved by control-breeding of young bulls and their selection considering their live weight gain with the use of the indices method. The evaluation of Latvian Brown breed productivity was performed in analogous control and experimental groups in dairy herds in 1997. The evaluation procedure is described, the results are discussed. The resulting experimental data are shown in tables.
