In 1997, more than 500,000 tonnes of fertilizer were purchased by FELDA for its oil palm plantations. Out of this amount, 11 percent were found to be off-specification based on SIRIM standard. The types of fertilizers that did not meet specification were mixtures (55.0 percent), MOP (20.5 percent, kieserite (13.8 percent), phosphate rock (6.7 percent), compounds (3.9 percent) and ammonium sulphate (2.8 percent). Urea, borax and ammonium nitrate were found to be within specification. This paper summarises the quality of the 1997 fertilizers as analysed by FASSB's laboratory.
