Correlation of soil macro-nutrients and micro-nutrients with weed flora of wheat under medium rainfall conditions

Studies were made around Islamabad and Rawalpindi in the medium rainfall (500-1000 mm annually) zones of Punjab, Pakistan. Correlations of soil macronutrients (N, P & K) and micronutrient (Zn Cu, Mn & Fe) with different weeds (14-16 Weeks After Sowing) were determined. Nitrogen and phosphorus were not found significantly correlated with the establishment of any of the weeds present in this area. High soil potash (54.90 mg/kg) was found favorable for the establishment of Anagallis arvensis, Convolvulus arvensis, Lamium amplexicaule, Melilotus indica and Scandix pecten-veneris whereas Buglossoides arvensis, Chenopodium album and Euphorbia helioscopia were favored by low soil potash (22.63 mg/kg). Vicia sativa was the only weed favored by high Zn (1.99 mg/kg) and Cu (3.89 mg/kg) content whereas low Cu content of 1.68 mg/kg of soil favored the establishment of Avena fatua, Buglossoides arvensis, Chenopodium album, Fumaria indica, Silene conoidea and Trigonella monantha. High Mn content of 23.86 mg/kg of soil favored the establishment of Convolvulus arvensis, Lamium amplexicaule, Melilotus indicus and Scandix pecten-veneris under medium rainfall conditions. High Soil Content of Fe (16.6 mg/kg) favored the establishment of Ranunculus muricatus and Torilis leptophylla whereas the low iron content of soil (6.26 mg/kg) was correlated with the establishments of Fumaria indica.
