Separation of pigments of paprika (Capsicum annuum L.) powders by adsorption and reversed-phase HPLC. A comparative study

The separation of coulour pigments of paprika was carried out on six different highperformance liquid chromatography colums using gradient elution. The theoretical plate number, asymmetry factor of main peaks and the number of fraction were used for the comparison of the separation characteristics of columns. It was found that due to its highest theoretical plate number microbore octadecylsilica column exposes the best separation capacity for the colour pigments of paprica, the peaks being symmetric even at higher retention times
