The culture of sole was developed in a fish farm of Sado estuary. Sole juveniles captured in natural environment and fry from hatchery were growth in earthen ponds for 10 months. Three strategies were assayed: in one pond 4000 wild soles and 4000 sea bass from hatchery were stocked; in the other two ponds 4000 sole fry were introduced in each one being one pond fertilised with an inorganic compound. Production, condition factor and specific growwth are presented for each culture. Fertilisation had a beneficial effect on the final production of the fertilised pond (190Kg) comparatively to the other pond (80 Kg). Despite of the extremely reduced dimensions of fry from hatchery (0.2 g), growth and final survival were similar to that of the wild juveniles with 14 g of individual weigh
