The nucleus strategy is intended to maximize short-term genetic gains by focusing breeding activities on a small intensively selected elite population (nucleus). The paper reflects on the results after almost a decade of nucleus breeding, particularly with regard to Stora Celbi's E. globulus improvement program in Portugal.
