Following 7-year period of permanent fertilization of semi-natural grassland the herbage chemical composition after fertilizing cessation (1995-1996) was studied. The concentration of nitrogen, potassium and natrium was decreased very sharply (50; 60 and 37% respectively) in comparison with last year of fertilization. A smaller decrease was detected in concentration of calcium (86%). The concentration of phosphorus and magnesium increased (114% and 143%). Differences in chemical composition results from changes of botanical composition on one hand but also various length of growing period and more intensive root biomass accumulation should be taken into account on the other hand
