Hunting of lynx (Lynx lynx L.) and wild cat (Felis silvestris Schreb.) in Slovakia one hundred years ago

According to the records on game hunting published in former Hungarian journal Vadasz Lap there were hunted 320 individuals of lynx in former Slovakia in the years 1892, 1894-1905, 1907 and 1909. It was on average 21 individuals of lynx (Lynx lynx L.) per annum. For the period of investigation lasting 15 years one lynx was hunted on average per 4980 hectares of forest. The greatest number of lynx was hunted in Liptov province (totally 70, on average 5 per annum). In particular years of this period the bag ranged from 15 in 1907 to 30 individuals in 1902. At present mean annual bag of lynx represents 112 individuals according to hunting records in Slovakia. In whole former Hungary 747 individuals of lynx were hunted for the period of investigation. It was on average 50 individuals per annum. For the same years there were hunted 4207 wild cats (Felis silvestris Schreb.), on average 280 per annum.
