Evaluation of modified sugar cane pith (Sucrafeed) as feed ingredient of growing-finishing pig diets (30-90 kilograms)

Evaluation of modified sugar cane pith (Sucrafeed) as feed ingredient of growing and finishing pigs were conducted using 50 Large White pigs of 30 kgs. body weight. The animals were divided into 10 groups which containing an equal number of castrated males and females. Each group of the animal was randomly assigned to an experimental dietary regime as following until 90 kgs. body weight. Regime 1: Diets containing 20 percent and 40 percent of sugar cane pith (New) in growing and finishing period respectively; Regime 2: A control corn-soybean diet in growing period and Diet containing 40 percent of sugar cane pith (New) in finishing period; Regime 3: Diets containing 20 percent and 40 percent of sugar cane pith (Old) in growing and finishing period respectively; Regime 4: A control corn-soybean diet in growing period and Diet containing 40 percent of sugar cane pith (Old) in finishing period and Regime 5: Control corn-soybean diets in both growing and finishing period. The animals were kept individually where feed and water were provided adlibitum. The results indicated that average daily gain, average daily feed intake, feed conversion ratio and period of feeding of the grower and finisher pigs on every experimental diet were not statistically differences (P0.05). In growing period, all performances of castrated male and female pigs were not statistically differences (P0.05). But in finishing period, average daily feed intake, feed conversion ratio of both pigs were significantly differences (P0.05). Pigs on the dietary Regime 1 and 3 had significantly (P0.05) higher loin eye area and lean percentage, and lower P2 backfat thickness than those on the dietary regime 2, 4 and 5.
