The paper presents the results of chemical, bacteriological, and mycotoxicogical analysis of 163 samples of compound mixes for poultry which arrived at the laboratory for regular control from the territory of the Republic of Serbia (Yugoslavia) in the period from 1993-1996. The contents of basic nutritive matter in the samples (water, ash, proteins, fats and cellulose) were very envisaged under the Book of Regulations (65%), and mostly so contents of protein (74.6%) and fat (56.9%). The number and types of saprophyte bacteria and saprophyte fungi varied depending on type of compound mix, as well as from year to year, and just a small number of samples contained and impermissible amount of clostridia. The main cause of the lack of the hygiene safety of the examined samples was the increased number of saprophyte fungi (79.5%). The amount and type of mycotoxins varied depending on the type of mix and from year to year. All the examined samples contained zearalenon and ochratoxin, while aflatoxin was not isolated in any sample.
