The existing water supply system of the town Kostolac , Serbia (Yugoslavia) and surrounding communities consists of three wells. In view of pronounced water deficiency during the summer period it is essential to find new sources which would provide sufficient quantities of potable water. Since 1983 the researches have been oriented toward the vast area of the alluvial plane of Velika Morava and Danube which extends from the village Petka, on the North, to Little Danube (Dunavac), on the Southwest, at 6 km from Kostolac. Comprehensive hydrogeological surrvey has been carried out to determine the capacity of the source Petka to provide quality groundwater for the supply of the town.
