In order to achieve a better insight into the ability of Azotobacter strains to establish associations, as well as into the efficiency of the established association, the possibilities of forming of efficient associations under two different forms of nutrition were investigated. Plants were grown in the nutritive Reid-York (50 diluted) solution, and only in distilled water. Efficiency was determined also from the aspect of strain influence on nitrogen content and nitrogenase activity in the roots under different nutrition conditions. The investigated Azotobacter strains exerted an influence on plant nitrogen content and the degree of these changes depended on the form of plant nutrition. Root nitrogenase activity with both forms of nutrition was comparatively low. In most Azotobacter chroococcum strains (0.1, P-10/3, Zp-1, Zp-1/1, Z-15 and Ko-111) nitrogenase activity is greater in the case of growing in Reid-York solution.
