In Yugoslavia, trichinellosis has become one of the serious, current problems in both veterinary and human medicine. Humans as well as many species of wild and domestic animals are susceptible to this disease expressing almost identical symptoms which are visible, in most cases, 24-48 hrs after infection with meat contaminated with trichinella. The continuous presence of natural reservoirs of this parasite (carnivores and omnivores among domesticated, wild animals and rodents) contribute to the rapid spread of this disease via synanthropic and salivatic cycle. Lack of education among the population creates a basis for the spread of this anthropozoonoses. This paper provides concurrent data on the distribution of this disease among humans and animals in the region of Srem, in order to enable a better acquaintance with the epidemiological situation where the incidence of affected animals and people has been constantly increasing for years.
