Effects of potassium, sodium and alfa-amino nitrogen on sucrose content in molasses as calculated by empirical formulas

On the basis of experimentally determined values for potassium, sodium and alfa-amino nitrogen content in sugar beet, harvested in 1996 from the production area of sugar refinery at Pecinci (Yugoslavia), the analysis was carried out of the data obtained for sucrose content in molasses calculated by the L. Wieninger and N. Kubadinov, E. Reinefeld, P. Devillers, Iris-84, Iris-88 and K. Bucholz empirical formulas. It was found that the investigated series (n=60) was not homogenous and also that anticipation of sucrose content in molasses using empirical formulas where alkaline coefficiet had influence allowed less homogenous results than the data obtained by empirical formulas where alkaline coefficient had no influence. Also, there were no statistically significant differences among the data obtained by empirical formulas where alkaline coefficient had influence. In addition, the E. Reinefeld formula is the only one which gave values for sucrose content in mollases not significantly statistically different either from values calculated by formulas which use alkaline coefficient or from those which do not, except the L. Wieninger and N. Kubadinov formula.
