Organochlorine pesticide residues in pork and cattle tissues in the Timis district [Romania] and consequences of their use on human health

In this paper we present a three year study (1995-1997) of chlorinated pesticide residues (alfa and beta BHC, lindane and total DDT) in pork and cattle tissues. On the basis of the obtained data it can be concluded that the values exceeding MRLs have been found only for alfa nad beta BHC and lindane in the first year of investigating period. Efforts are made to prohibit the use of chlorinated pesticides and to replace them by other types of pesticides, with similar pest control effects but less persistence. Due to that, during the investigation period, pesticide residue contents in a significant number of samples show a decreasing tendency.
