Content and forms of heavy metals in different soils and their availability to plants [Serbia, Yugoslavia]. [A short version of master thesis]

The total contents of all of the investigated heavy metals (Cu, Zn, Cr, Pb, Ni and As) in Pomoravlje soils (cambisols and alluvium), Serbia, Yugoslavia are higher than their average content in the "world" soils. The total contents of Cu and Cr in the cambisols, as well as the total contents of Pb, Ni and Cr in the alluvial soils have exceeded the maximum allowed values for the unpolluted soils. The total and the available contents of all of the investigated heavy metals, except Cu, are higher in the alluvium soils, compared with the cambisols. All of the heavy metals are dominantly presented in the residual fraction of the both soil types (except Cu in two cambisol samples), while their lowest concentrations are in the fraction of available metal forms. According to the results from the pot trial, it can be drawn that the higher uptake of the heavy metals by the corn plants did not occur. The obtained contents of the heavy metals in the plant tissue are within the average and also allowed amounts. Exception of that is found in the case of Cu (cambisol) and Ni (both soil types), whose contents are increased, but only in the root tissue.
