The new nematode resistant medium ripening potato variety 'Piret' has been developed at the Jogeva Plant Breeding Institute and included in the List of recommended varieties from 2000. 'Piret' was selected from the cross Jogeva breed 1073-72 x 'Omega'N. This paper give information about economic and biological characteristics of 'Piret'. Its tubers have regular shape, shallow eyes and good taste. It is free from darkening after cooking and enzymatic discoloration. It can be used as table potato. 'Piret' is also suitable for making chips and French fries. 'Piret' is immune to wart, relatively resistant to virus diseases and late blight. It has relatively good storage qualities
