In a comprehensive survey of relevant research findings, the most important topics of applied animal behaviour are discussed from the point of view of ethics and welfare associated with animal husbandry. The historical background of the relationship of mankind with animals from Jewish-Christian concept up to humanitarian philosophies is given based on theoretical approach and practical consequences. Actual approach of the topic is discussed with special reference to applied genetics vs. breeding, housing and management as well as human factors.
