From 8214 swabsamples taken from body surfaces and cavities of domestic fowl, ducks, turkeys, geese, quails, and doves between 1980 and 1996 1308 (15,92%) contained salmonellae. The relative frequency of occurrence among species was the following: quail (48,02%), dove (37,50%), duck (32,53%). goose (24,00%), turkey (15,56%), domestic fowl (13,59%). The absolute frequency of occurrence; domestic fowl (71,8%), duck (11,4%), quail (6,5%), turkey (4,8%), goose (3,7%), and dove (1,8%), was greatest in domestic fowl which represented the majority of the 1308 samples.
