[Collection and selection of Cucumis melo germplasm]

英语. The need for muskmelon seeds is fully covered from foreign countries. Therefore, technology for new hybrids muskmelon is needed. Preliminary steps of this activity were germplasm collection, evaluation of quality, yield productivity and resistance toward Fusarium wilt disease, and appearance. This activities were carried out from April 1995 - March 1996. The twelve F1 hybrid varieties collected as seeds, were Action-434, Meteor, Sky Rocket, New Century Silver Light, Jade Dew, Honey Dew, Ananas, Galia, Amigo and Sun. Yield test showed that planting location affected yield and fruit quality. Muskmelon varieties grown at Pace, Madiun (D-E rainfall type, 85 m a.s.l. and gromusol) showed higher fruit weight, glucose content and thicker but lower fruit acid content compared to varieties grown at Karangploso, Malang (C-D rainfall type, 485 m a.s.l., and oxisol). In addition, consumer (panelist) preferred fruit from Pace. Planting location did not affect fruit texture and flavor, but differed between varieties. Hard fruit texture and netted fruit skin appeared in Action-434, Meteor, Ananas, Sky Rocket, Galia and Amigo. The other six varieties had winter fruit skin. Silver Light had a strong fruit flavor, but resistance to Fusarium wilt and was not preferred by consumers, due to bitter taste and smaller fruit size ( 0.5 kg). The resistency of Silver Light towards Fusarium wilt related to the thickness of base stem epiderm, the more thicker the epiderm, the more resistance the plant. The most preferred variety was Sun, because this variety was more adaptive compared to the others. Jade Dew, Sky Rocket, Silver Light and Sun were considered as short fruit harvested varieties (0-55 days after planting), while the other eight varieties were considered as long harvested varieties (65-75 days after planting). Action-434, New Century and Sun have longer shelflife (9-12 days after harvest), whereas the other varieties have shorter shelflife (4-7 days after harvest). Variation of F2 fruit weight among varieties was relatively high, (23.5 percent - 45.67 percent) except Silver Light and Sky Rocket, while variation of fruit texture of F2 among varieties was around 23.2 percent - 73.8 percent. 未知. Kebutuhan benih melon untuk petani Indonesia sepenuhnya tergantung pasok dari negara lain. Untuk mengurangi ketergantungan pasok tersebut perlu teknologi pembentukan benih melon hibrida baru. Langkah awal dari teknik tersebut adalah mengumpulkan plasma nutfah, evaluasi mutu, daya hasil dan ketahanannya terhadap penyakit layu Fusarium, serta evaluasi penampilan galur dari sejumlah varietas yang dikumpulkan mulai bulan April 1995 - Maret 1996. Dua belas varietas hibrida F1 yang berhasil dikumpulkan dikoleksi dalam bentuk biji, yaitu Action-434, Meteor, Sky Sweet, Silver Light, New Century, Ananas, Jade Dew, Honey Dew, Sky Rocket, Galia, Amigo dan Sun. Uji daya hasil menunjukkan bahwa lokasi tanam mempengaruhi hasil dan kualitas buah varietas-varietas melon. Semua varietas yang ditanam di Pace, Madiun (tipe curah hujan D-E, ketinggian tempat 85 m dpl., dan jenis tanah gromusol) menunjukkan bobot dan tebal buah, diikuti oleh kadar gula yang lebih tinggi dan kadar asam buah yang lebih rendah dari pada varietas-varietas yang ditanam di Kebun Percobaan Indrokilo, Karangploso Malang (tipe curah hujan C-D ketinggian tempat 485 m dpl. dan jenis tanah oxisol), sehingga rasa buah lebih disukai oleh konsumen (panelis). Lokasi tanam tidak mempengaruhi aroma dan tekstur buah, tetapi kedua karakter ini berbeda antar varietas. Tekstur buah yang keras ditampilkan oleh Action-434, Meteor, Ananas, Sky Rocket, Galia dan Amigo. Keenam varietas ini kulit buahnya berjala, sedangkan enam yang lainnya kulit buahnya halus. Silver Light yang aroma buahnya kuat, ternyata imun terhadap layu Fusarium, tetapi tidak disukai oleh konsumen, karena citarasanya pahit dan ukuran buahnya kecil-kecil (lebih kecil dari atau sama dengan 0.5 kg). Tampaknya tingkat ketahanan varietas terhadap layu Fusarium berhubungan dengan tebal lapisan epidermis pangkal batang tanaman. Makin tebal lapisan epidermis pangkal batang, tanaman makin tahan terhadap layu Fusarium. Sedangkan varietas yang paling disukai oleh konsumen adalah Sun. Varietas ini relatif lebih adaptif daripada varietas yang lain. Jade Dew, Sky Sweet, Silver Light dan Sun menampilkan umur panen yang genjah (40-55 hari setelah tanam), sedangkan 8 varietas yang lainnya termasuk menampilkan umur panen yang dalam (65-75 hari setelah tanam). Action-434, New Century dan Sun menampilkan tahan simpan yang lebih lama (9-12 hari setelah panen) jika dibandingkan dengan 10 varietas yang lain, yang hanya dapat disimpan 4-7 hari setelah panen. Keragaman bobot buah galur F2 antar varietas cukup tinggi berkisar antara 23,56 persen - 45,67 persen, kecuali pada Silver Light dan Sky Rocket. Demikian juga keragaman tekstur buah pada galur F2 antar varietas. Galur F2 antar varietas berkisar antara 23,18 persen - 73,82 persen. Karakter jala kulit buah pada populasi galur F2 mengalami pemisahan menjadi halus dengan proporsi 3:1. Pada populasi galur F2 juga terjadi pemisahan warna buah
