Screening of several sweet potato cultivars for tolerance to aluminium toxicity

The objective of this experiment was to determine the relative level of tolerance of several sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas (L) Lam.) cultivars to aluminium toxicity. This screening was conducted by using a sand culture treated with a 750 uM aluminium sulphate solution. The relative root length (PAR = panjang akar relatif) analysis showed that 12 cultivars were tolerant. These cultivars were the following: Biak-10, Musaneken Baru, Hubuk, Mokmir, Boragen, Hipoyeh, Omakmbi, Aluwulek, Tinta Merah, Yuaiken Baru, Kafiar dan Mayugwe
