[Assesment of the drinking water quality in the town of Gulbene]

Assesment of the quality of drinking water in wells having ferro-concrete framework in individual living houses of Gulbene city was performed. Nearly all wells had hard water. According to chemical oxygen content more than 1/3 of wells polluted. In 11% of wells concentration of ammonia and ammonium ion was over the admissable limits. The concentration of nitrate was within the admissible limits at the same time it was significantly higher than in the centralized tap water. In 1/3 of the assessed wells the concentration of iron exceeded permissible limit.
