[The development of entrepreneurship strategy in Latvia]

The report deals with the present entrepreneurial activity in Latvia and the endeavours to work out the strategy of its development in future including the main directions of development. To clarify the profitability of the entrepreneurship in Latvia's economy a financial analysis of 18303 enterprises in Riga and its region was performed using the account data of 1995-1996. The results of the analysis are presented and discussed. The following conclusions have been drawn: a statistical system for the observation of the entrepreneurial activity should be created to improve the quality of information about the activity of enterprises; a law on the State support of small enterprises should be worked out and adopted; the law on income taxes of enterprises should be changed.
