The aim of this experiment was to study the production of D and L lactic acid isomers in the rumen during a 24-hour period when cows were fed balanced ration and in the case of experimental rumen acidosis. The experiments were carried out with stall-fed Lithuanian B&W cows. The experimental groups were formed on the basis of analogous. The cows of the I group were fed balanced ration according to their physiological requirements, the cows of the II group - were given 22 kg of barley meal after a 24-hour starving period. The amount of D and L lactic acid isomers in the rumen was analysed by enzymatic bioanalysis method. It was determined that concentration of D and L lactic acid isomers in the rumen fluid of cows depends on the ration structure, the time after feeding and the activity of fermentative processes.
