Preliminary study on the suitable depth of stocking giant clam (Tridacna squamosa) breeders at the Guiuan pearl farm [Guiuan, Eastern Samar, Philippines]

Giant clam breeders (Tridacna squamosa) need to be stocked in favorable depths where they will always be healthy and ready for spawning. Sunlight influences the clam's growth and survival in view of their symbiotic relationship with Zooxam thellae. The study aimed to determine the growth increment, survival rate and causes of mortalities in different depth levels using 1, 2, 3, and 4 meters depths stocked in 3 different sites at the Guian Pearl Farm. The highest monthly average growth increment (3.51 mm) was observed in site A, facing southwest at one meter depth and the least average growth increment (1.44 mm) was in site C at 3 meters depth, facing east. There was no mortality observed during the study
