Majority of the fish gatherers are migrant fishermen (67%) with a monthly income ranging from P1,000 to P6,000. Health and hazard risks usually faced are cramps, lung/hearing ailment and shark attack. Medical attention is usually ignored due to its prohibitive cost. Majority (57.78%) of the respondents have negative attitude and perception towards the importance of corals, seagrass and mangroves on the productivity of aquarium fishes and its protection and conservation. The main reason is that majority (66.67%) were migrants in the area. They can always transfer to other areas with abundant aquarium fishes when productivity in San Salvador dwindles. Use of cyanide and other illegal methods of fishing were perceived favorably by 31.11% of the respondents. It seems that there was no concern over the negative effects on the resources. Efforts must be exerted by concerned agencies to educate these people to develop concern for the environment including full implementation of fishery laws
