Evaluation of three practical techniques in detecting adulteration in fresh buffalo milk

Three techniques using soft paper materials, pressed cotton wad, and organoleptic test were evaluated to determine the extent of their practical application in detecting adulteration for water and coconut milk in fresh buffalo milk. Milk samples were also subjected to specific gravity test, and fat and solid content analysis to compare and validate the efficiency of results obtained from the practical techniques under consideration. Results of the experiment showed that the use of either newspaper or mimeographing paper and pressed cotton wad can facilitate detection of water and coconut milk adulteration in fresh buffalo milk, respectively. On the other hand, organoleptic test can also serve as an effective technique for detecting milk adulteration, only that it requires training for anybody to be able to use the technique effectively. The efficiency of the practical techniques tested were confirmed by the results obtained from specific gravity and fat content and total solid content analysis
