Effect of Trichoderma-treated napier concentrate on feed lot performances of cattle

Results revealed significant differences on the average final weight. Those fed with 60% fresh napier and 40% regular concentrate without TTNC [trichoderma-treated napier concentrate] have the highest average final weight of 280.67 kg, while those fed with 60% fresh napier and 40% concentrate composed of 25% TTNC and 75% regular concentrate have the highest average daily gain by 0.767 kg. No significant differences on average dry matter feed consumption was observed. On the average dry matter feed conversion efficiency, those fed with 25% TTNC in the ration, was the most profitable among the treatments. The 25% level of TTNC incorporation in the ration which had resulted to the highest weight gain can be the basis for further study. Incorporation of up to 50% TTNC in the ration can be studied to be able to determine the maximum level of TTNC that can be included in the ration which may result to maximum growth performance in cattle. Based on results of this study, phase 1 indicated no significant differences on the nutrient composition of Trichoderma-treated napier concentrate with that of the untreated napier concentrate. But the total decomposition was shortened from 8 weeks to 6 weeks with the addition of Trichoderma in composting. The second phase of the study on the feeding trial revealed that the Trichoderma-treated napier concentrate contributed to growth and that the 25% level of TTNC had resulted to the highest average weight gain with regards to cost and profitability , it was observed that treatment 4 was the best among the treatments
