Role performance of devolved agricultural extensionists and farmers' participation in extension activities in Bukidnon, Philippines

The study was conducted in two municipalities of Bukidnon, Philippines. The objectives were to: a. present a profile of the devolved extension workers and the farmer clientele in two selected municipalities in the province of Bukidnon; b. determine the role performance of the devolved extension workers; c. determine the clientele's level of participation in the agricultural extension programs/activities; d. identify some personal factors that influence the clientele's participation in the agricultural extension programs/activities; e.) determine certain factors that may be related to the role performance of the devolved extension workers. A total of 209 farmers and 21 extension workers from the two municipalities served as respondents in this study. The survey method was employed using the interview schedule. Descriptive statistics such as frequency counts, percentages, means and correlation analysis were used. The study revealed that the level of role performance of the devolved extension workers is generally high. About half of the farmer respondents were also found to have a high participation in agricultural extension activities. The factors found to have a significant influence on farmers' participation to agricultural extension activities were their level of education as well as exposure to mass media. The result of the correlation analysis on the factors related to the role performance of the devolved extension workers showed no significance at 5 percent level
