The height and survival variables of 30 maritime pine (Pinus pinaster Ait.) from different provenances were measured in five field trials held in northen and central Portugal, after four years in the field. Trimmed Joint Regression and Analysis of Principal Components were used in the global evaluation. Ranking of the provenances was made using a classification index based on estimated regression coefficients, mean height and survival for each provenance. Reference is made to the possibility of using the adaptative characteristics already developed in selected stands
