[Cooperativism, communitarianism and the defence of the cooperative heritage]

The "phenomenon of coperation" in Portugal - understood as an act of organized assistance among several individuals who are incapable of achieving any objective on their own - is much more ancient than the Nation. The bibliography refers, on this purpose, the existence of simple ways of mutual assistance which have been introduced in the territory with the first settlers, even before the roman occupation. This is the case of the "communal exploitation of the land", the "collective cattle pasturing", where each herd of cattle or "vezeira" is conducted in turn by one of its owners and the "service exchange", in which members of one family exchange with other families certain services. More recent, but also with centuries, are the "desfolhada", summer practice where relatives and friends, roundly gathered in the barn floors, husk the grains of the corn, the "levada", water supplying system serving several cultivation fields, built and maintained by its different beneficiaries, the "people's oven" used by all the population of the village, the "seguradoras de gado" existent in the North and Centre of the country, which reimburse the associate for the loss of the deseased animais or incapacitated by accident, and many others contained and described in this work. The author of the present publication thinks of the utmost importance the preservation of these forms of mutual help, since, up to him, they are in the direct origin of some of the still existent types of co-operatives in our country, considering these communal forms as making part of the historical patrimony of those co-operatives

葡萄牙语. O "fenomeno de cooperacao" em Portugal - entendido como a entreajuda organizada por varios individuos que se sentem incapazes de alcancar sozinhos determinado objectivo - e muito mais antigo do que a Nacao. A bibliografia refere a proposito a existencia de formas simples de auxilio mutuo que foram introduzidas no territorio com os primeiros povoadores, ainda antes da ocupacao romana. E o caso da "exploracao comunitaria da terra", do "pastoreio colectivo do gado", onde cada rebanho ou "vezeira" e conduzido a vez por um dos seus proprietarios e da "troca de servicos", em que os membros de uma familia permutam com os de outra servicos por servicos. Mais recentes, mas tambem seculares, sao a "desfolhada", pratica estival onde parentes e amigos, reunidos na eira em grande roda, descamisam o milho, a "levada", vale de rega que serve varios campos de cultura, construida e conservada pelos diferentes beneficiarios, o "forno do povo", utilizado por toda a populacao de uma aldeia, as "seguradoras de gado", existentes no Norte e Centro do Pais, que indemnizam os associados pela perda dos animais mortos ou inutilizados por acidente e muitas outras que estao inscritas e descritas neste trabalho. O autor desta publicacao julga de fundamental importancia a preservacao destas formas de entreajuda, pois, segundo ele, estao na origem directa de alguns tipos de cooperativas actuais do nosso pais, considerando essas formas comunitarias como fazendo parte do "patrimonio historico" dessas cooperativas
