Analysis of the data obtained from all communities of Krakow region showed that structural changes in agriculture, especially in agrarian structure, are very slow. Small average farm size cannot secure adequate income to family farms. High labour resources on the farms means wasting their surplus. Multi-functional rural development would be an alternative solving the problem, increasing dynamics of changes in acreage structure and raising agricultural income per person in farmer's family. Assuming scenario of average acreage 8 ha, it may be estimated that the number of farms in region will decrease to 27500, 16000 of which should make up economically efficient, specialistic farms
