The concepts of feed databases are briefly described, particularly its objectives, type of end users, structures, type of data and its acquisition and dissemination. A historical perspective is outlined regarding International Network of Feed Information Centres (INFIC) and the participation of EZN in this global project. The main problems connected to the maintenance and management of a feed database are discussed. Special attention is given to software, feed identification, data manipulation, consolidation and validation and strategies of data dissemination. Finally, a description is given regarding the development of a Feed Database at EZN by the Department of Nutrition and a record is made of the type and amount of data already processed
