[Legal procedures relating to the production and marketing of ornamental plant propagation materials]

The production and marketing of ornamental plants constitutes an activity of an increasing economical importance in the developed countries, and its success depends to a large extent on the good quality of the propagating material. In order to establish harmonized rules at European Community level to apply to the production and marketing of propagating material of ornamental plants, community legislation was elaborated, which was then transposed into national legislation. Here is explained the content of the legislation that regulates the production and marketing of propagating material of ornamental plants, emphasizing the requirements to be met by these materials. The requirements to be met by the various intervenients in the process of production, marketing and control are also refered, in a succint way. Finaly, information is given concerning the procedure for the obtention of a supplier's licence
