Dry season crop production planning under prevailing situation in Amphur Saphaya Changwat Chai Nat

Major objective of this study is to find an optimal plan for farm households' dry season crop production under the concerned constraints of land, labor, capital and water supply from irrigation, and the prevailing market conditions. A total of 75 sample from households were randomly selected from the study area. Linear programming model was employed as major analytical tool to achieve the study objective. The optimal results suggest that small farm households should grow green soybean and peanut in the dry season while medium farm households should cultivate green soybean and rice in the dry season. For the large farm households green soybean, grain soybean, rice, peanut and corn should be planted in the dry season. These production plans can generate a maximum net cash income for small medium and large farm households. The sensitivity analysis of decreased supply of water from irrigation for dry season crop production also suggests that small, medium and large farm households should adjust their crop production patterns in the dry season in order to reach a maximum net cash income. For instance, small and large farm households should reduce peanut production and corn production respectively, while medium farm households should reduce rice production.
