Study on diseases of pond-raised giant gourami (Osphronemus goramy Lac.)

Giant gourami (Osphronemus goramy) is a fresh water fish. It can live in the low dissolved oxygen in water because of having the labyrinth organ. It can eat many kinds of vegetable so that it can be easily raised. Inspite of raising for fish protein of good taste, it can be raised as an ornamental fish. Nowaday the raising giant gourami is becoming popular. Therefore, the study on diseases of pond-raised giant gourami was conducted. The aims of this study are on parasitic and bacterial diseases investigation and on water quality in the pond within 10 months. During 10 months of study fish samples were collected every 15 days, 10 fish for finding parasite and 5 fish for bacterial isolation. At the same time water samples were collected for analysis. This study showed that the disease was not outbreak, even though the aeromonas bacteria was sometime present in kidney and liver by isolation. The external parasite (Trichodina spp. and Trichodinella sp.) were also found. However, the Trichodina spp. were found throughout the raising duration. The water quality was suitable for raising.
