Growth development, biochemical changes and harvesting index of mango (Mangifera indica L.) cv. Oakrongthong and Manwan

Study on growth and development biochemical changes and harvesting index of mango (Mangifera indica L.) CV. Oakrongthong and Manwan growth, at Rajamangala Institute of Technology Surin Campus, was carried out at the Laboratory of the Common Related Subject Department, from January 1994 to May 1994. The results showed that the growth of seed and fruit of Oakrongthong and Manwan was in the simple sigmoid curve pattern. The period from full-bloom to fruit maturity took 12 weeks for Oakrongthong and Manwan. The endocarp of the two varieties started to harden at the seventh and eighth week and hardened within the eighth and ninth week after full-bloom, respectively. The mature fruit of them weighted 220 and 226 gm, respectively. Manwan had more chlorophyll than Oakrongthong Chlorophyll of Oakrongthong reached the maximal level in the tenth week and decreased thereafter until ripening. Chlorophyll of Manwan reached the maximal level in twelvth week and decreased thereafter until ripening. Total soluble solids (TSS) of them were high in the first two weeks and decreased until ten weeks but increased thereafter until ripening. Fruit firmness of them was constanted from six to eleven weeks thereafter increased and decrease at ripening. From studying the both mango cultivars should be harvested when they were 12 weeks or 84 days after the fruitset. But it was the best to be harvested at 13 weeks or 91 days after the fruitset or 105 days after the full-bloom.
