Energy conservation in the Hawaiian sugar industry

Hawaiian sugar industry is a leader in the generation of electric energy from bagasse. The industry generates a significant share of the electric energy distributed by utility companies in the State of Hawaii. Energy conservation measures in the sugar manufacturing process and efficient power generation equipment are essential for successful cogeneration. The technologies currently applied in the industry are reviewed together with equipment utilized by various factories. Operation aspects unique to the Hawaiian industry are also covered.
