Implementing baby food and full fat soy flour products in selected villages in Thailand

Purpose of this research was to study the acceptability of the products from full fat soy flour such as Krob-Krob Kaset (soy flour snack), cookies and baby food for food supplementation for children 3 months-5 years old and to study food habit of pregnant women, lactating women and preschool children. This study was carried out in 6 villages of Sakon Nakhon province with three villages in the urban areas and the others were in the rural areas. Most people were poor farmers. For food believes, pregnant women didn't like to eat fatty foods because they were afraid of hard delivery. Lactating women were prohibited to eat many kinds of food. Children from 6 villages were given food supplementation from full fat soy flour one pack (50 g)/person/day for 3 months. From the questionnairs, baby food was not quite popular among children since they didn't like paste food. Between Krob Krob kaset and cookies, children prefered cookies more than Krob Krob Kaset because of sweeten taste, since Krob Krob Kaset was too salty.
