Propagation of channel catfish (Ictalurus punctatus) at Chiangmai Inland Fisheries Development Center

Channel catfish propagation was held in 1991 and 1993 when water temperature were 18-21 deg C and 26-29 deg C at Chiang Mai Inland Fisheries Center. Twenty pairings of 20-months-old channel catfish were evaluated in pens for spawning day, spawning percentage, fecundity, hatchability, fry survival, and total number of fry per female. Channel catfish reached sexual maturity within 2 years and spawned after temperature reaches 18-29 deg C. The spawning stoped when water temperature was higher than 30 deg C. Spawning percentage at 18-21 deg C and 26-29 deg C were 50 percent and 10 percent respectively. Fecundity was 18.15 eggs/1 gm egg masses. Hatching percentage and survival to 14 days of fry ranged from 10 percent to 99 percent and 84 percent to 99 percent respectively. Average total number of fry per female was 5,882.
