Toxic distrophy of piglet liver and its prophylaxis

Toxic distrophy of liver in piglets is a disease that develops due to food intoxication and feeding animals with defective rations. Lack of selenium in foodstuffs is also of great importance leading to impropev metabolism and reduction of natural resistance of the organism. The disease is based on a partial or complete loss of detoxicative ability of the liver. Instantaneous development of the disease, increase in the body temperature, excitement, muscular tremor and convulsions are characteristic clinical syndroms. Some animals demonstrate toxicodermy and icteric skin. Blood test reveals hyperbilirubinemia, hypoalbuminemia, increase in the activity of specific and non-specific enzymes; sharp, 2-3 times increase of the iron content. The main aim of treatment consists in detoxication of the body by elimination of toxins and intermediate metabolic products. A new preparation, hepatocel, produced on the basis of liver cells has been recommended for use in such cases. The preparation is based on essential abilities of isolated cells to conjugate and transfer toxic compounds into slightly toxic products of metabolism that can be eliminated from the bodies of sick animals. This biologic is a good means for prophylaxis and treatment of toxic distrophy in piglets, being effective and ecologically pure.
