The thesis provides deep insight into studying mammals and their environment-transforming activities under conditions of Prydniprovia (Trans-Dnieper region). The study is aimed at determining mammals' role in soil-producing processes, establishing mechanisms of homeostasis and forming the processes of self-purification of forest systems. As a result of the study, by using comparative, direct counting and variational statistics the experimental material is generalized, regularities are shown of environment-transforming role of mammals in changes in physico-chemical and biological soil regimes. A role of various functional manifestations of mammals in activating the soil processes, as well as in creating the mechanisms of soil self-purification from technogenic pollution is indicated. Measures are elaborated for using this role of mammals in biotechnological techniques aimed at protecting biodiversity and constructing soils and forest plantations under conditions of steppe zone and technogenic landscapes
