Florfenicol and thiamphenicol are structural analogs of chloramphenicol of considerably lower toxicity. A comparative study of the antibacterial activity of these antibiotics in vitro was carred out on 52 Gram(+) and Gram(-) pathogenic bacterial strains resistant to some other antibacterial means in view of the possibilities of their successful practical application. The method of minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) was used. It has been established that florfenicol manifests the best antibacterial effect. Its MIC values are much smaller compared to other amphenicols studied. Thiamphenicol is inferior to florfenicol and chloramphenicol in terms of antibacterial activity in vitro, especially with respect to some Gram(+) microorganisms.
