Enzyme treatment to eliminate egg stickiness in tench was compared with standard methodology in an attempt to increase egg hatching rate under hatchery conditions. Eggs were exposed to different concentrations of an alcalase enzyme solution 3 minutes after activation for 2 minutes. The highest hatching rate was found with 10 mL/L enzyme treatment (87.1 % under laboratory conditions, 88.1 % under fish farm conditions). The traditional desticking procedure involving milk/clay treatment gave a hatching rate of 74.1 % under laboratory conditions and 30 % under fish farm conditions.
