Therapy and prophylactic efficacy of whole-cell and subunit vaccines against porcine actinobacillar pleuropneumonia

Optimal timing, route of administration, selection of antibiotics and factors limiting the efficacy of therapy of porcine actinobacillar pleuropneumonia are discussed. Attention is paid to the type and strength of immunity induced by vaccination and to effects of maternal antibodies on its results. Benefits and drawbacks of commercial vaccines prepared of killed or inactivated whole cells (bacterins) and subunit vaccines are discussed.
