The stability of resistance in a field housefly population, Musca domestica, over 60 generations, following the interruption of insecticide selection pressure

The stability of resistance to azamethiphos, dimethoate, pirimiphos-methyl, bendiocarb, cypermethrin, deltamethrin and permethrin was investigated over 60 generations in a multi resistant "KP" population of Musca domestica by a tarsal contact test. The resistance to bendiocarb was the most persistent. The first marked decrease was observed from the 35th generation. The resistance to pyrethroids lasted up to the 30th generation. Comparing the organophosphates tested, the resistance to dimethoate was relatively the most stable. A considerable decrease was observed from the 12th generation. The resistance to azamethiphos decreased considerably between generations 4 and 13. The LC50 for pirimiphos-methyl reached the values characteristic of sensitive flies as early as in the 5th generation.
