Ground liming of forest soils - planning by GIS tools for the Velky Polom area

The use of machines for ground liming of forest soils is evaluated. GIS application to the model planning of ground liming is verified on the basis of data from a project of remediation measures for the model area Velky Polom. There is a brief discussion about reclamation of acidic forest soils in Slovakia, about selection of machines for ground liming, and about the GIS potential to solve decision problems. The results of analyses showed that GIS are an appropriate tool for support of decisions in the area of Velky Polom is a realistic measure on condition that all potential roads ae adapted and used and the machine range of operation is 100 m, or on condition that the machines go along skidding lines in forfest stands. Slope accessibility should be within 30% (skidder undercarriage).
