The occurrence of arthropods in strawberry plantation depending on the method of cultivation

From our observations it can be concluded that plastic mulch reduced the number of pests in strawberry plantations. At the same time the amount of spiders and ground beetles increased. In our tests the most abundant pest in the strawberry plantation was Galerucella tenella (Coleoptera). The occurrence of a population of Anthonomus rubi (Coleoptera) was at low level. The greatest number of leaf weevils (Phyllobius spp.) (Coleoptera) was found in the agryl cover variant. An agryl cover serves as a protection from vernal pests only when it is placed on a pestless ground. In strawberry plantations the agryl cover plays only an episodic role, because it has to be removed while the plants blossom, and thus the plants are henceforth accessible to pests. The pests under the agryl cover developed more quickly than the ones on the ground without any cover. Beneath the cover they are protected from many parasites and predatory organisms
