Review paper on research areas quoted as "nanotechnology" including computing applications, self-organized chemical systems and briefly, on impact with biology. A comparison with microtechnologies (micromashining) is also given. Few examples of results are also presented with an accent on achievements of the author's group in this and similar fields, e.g. porous silicon structure, Y-shaped single walled carbon nanotubes, and pellistor development towards "artificial nose".
