Effects of phytase supplementation on calcium and phosphorus output, production traits and mechanical stability of the tibia in broiler chickens

A 42-day feeding trial was performed using 240 chicks (day-old Ross 208 chicks) to determine whether exogenous phytase addition increases P utilisation by broilers, and to assess its effects on some production traits as well as on the ash content and mechanical stability of the tibia.Diets consisting of maize, wheat, soyabean oilmeal, fish meal, yeast and fat powder were supplemented with inorganic P in groups A and B.In groups C and D, the amount of the inorganic P supplement (DCP) was decreased by 50%, at the same Ca:P ratio.The 50% reduction in inorganic P supplementation represented a 20% decrease in total P.To the diets of groups B and D a phytase activity was 600 FYT/kg feed.The decrease in inorganic P did not cause significant differences in daily liveweight gain but lowered feed conversion rate by 10%.
